All of the guidance contained within our handbooks and policies is underpinned by the core principle of integrity. The key values that guide our work and our team are that we are always professional, responsive and dynamic.
Integrity: The core principle
Everything that we do is underpinned by our integrity.
We expect everyone who works for us to hold the highest standards of integrity, ethics, honesty and transparency. Our mandate is to work across the world to tackle issues of corruption and criminality so we must actively demonstrate and role model the very best practice in terms of transparency, accountability, integrity and anti-corruption. Consideration should be given to the source of funding and the intention of donors and/or the partnerships that we engage in. (Please see specific policy here). Any infringement of these principles or our Code of Ethics and Standards would fundamentally undermine our mandate and cause serious consequences for our mission and organisation.
Value: We are professional
All staff are trusted to deliver their objectives to the best of their ability and to work creatively and innovatively in the best interests of the GI-TOC. We work to a very high standard of professionalism, not only to best further the development, work and standards of our own organisation, but also because we have a duty to actively role model professionalism within our sector. This includes a commitment to quality, diversity and representation in all of our engagements.
All interactions with colleagues, partners and clients must be respectful and encouraging at all times. The obligations that we hold to each other are as important as our obligations to delivering an exceptional high standard of work to our clients and we pride ourselves on supporting each other and never letting each other down.
Value: We are responsive
Our priorities are driven by a variety of funders, who are often operating themselves in political and fast moving environments, and working cycles are often short in nature and responsive. Consequently we are a versatile, flexible and responsive organization that is able to rapidly adapt and deliver quality projects and programmes in a relatively quick timescale.
We also respond to localised conditions. In regards to employment practices, given that our colleagues work in different environments and across a variety of social and legal norms and standards, our policies all have to be adapted to local needs. This does mean that employment practices may vary according to role, performance, length of service or contract and location, but we always endeavor to be fair to all our employees. We do our best to be a reasonable and responsive employer to meet our client and employee needs.
Value: We are dynamic
The GI-TOC actively seeks out opportunities and brings a creative and strategic approach to all our work. The GI-TOC is highly responsive to the needs of clients, funders, partners, colleagues and those on the front line, but we also go further and aspire to lead, influence and move forward. We work flexibly, constantly looking for openings and opportunities.
Our work produces excellent outcomes and represents exceptional value for money to our funders because we are able to adapt quickly and reach expert networks close to the ground. We are only able to do this because our professional staff bring their expertise, networks, commitment and background to all their work. Everyone who works at the GI-TOC is self-managing, flexible and committed to the GI-TOC’s mandate. Staff are strongly encouraged to take initiative, to be efficient and effective with our capital and resources (human, financial and political) and take advantage of opportunities on behalf of the GI-TOC.
Staff are encouraged to work flexibly in whichever way that best supports them to deliver their objectives to a high quality standard and to support GI-TOC’s best interests and continued growth and development. Supervisory oversight is therefore very much focused on encouraging a dynamic approach from staff and on the quality of deliverables rather than routine and working practices.
