Handbook purpose
This section of the manual has been produced to help anyone working with or for The Global Initiative to understand more about our organisation and to provide an overview of the practices, policies and procedures that all employees and consultants will need to be familiar with. An accompanying suite of relevant template documentation is also available.
The international nature of our organisation means that the Global Initiative teams are comprised of people from a variety of countries using a mix of consulting staff and employees on contract. We are therefore bound by a range of different legal structures and practices for individual employees.
This handbook covers everyone who works for the Global Initiative, but any differences arising due to contract status are highlighted. You should note the relevant sections for your role and contract when you refer to the handbook, which is intended as a useful induction and reference manual, rather than a legal document. Please refer to any specific paperwork, such as your contract or other policies, where necessary.
Queries and concerns
If you have any HR queries, please direct them in the first instance to your primary supervisor, or to Monique de Graaff, Director of Human Resources.
Induction and probation
Your primary supervisor will manage your induction. Together you will go through the areas outlined on the induction checklist and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions and explore any further areas that you may need to find out more about as part of your induction. If you feel that you do not understand or do not have sufficient knowledge on any of the areas on the checklist, please talk to your supervisor before you finish your induction period.
Your probation period is stipulated in your contract, or if not, then the default period is 3 months.
